Spring on the Deschutes

Here's winter on the Deschutes, a few miles south of Sun River. I'll be moving down there in a few years. Hopefully..

People here have done well to make plans ahead of retirement while some are in the process like Smithee and miraje. We moved out to the boonies (out of the Seattle burbs) in '14 and never looked back. Although we're 23 miles from any main shopping, we have all the amenities we could possibly need including AZ deliveries and an Internet connection. The beauty of the place makes the hassle of having to go "down valley" for supplies well worth the extra effort.

There is a small grocery store in town, a post office, firehouse, elementary school and outdoor adventure shop (kayaking/rafting/camping) with a coffee shop and sandwich shop inside. There is the "Bush House Inn" which is on the National Historical Registry and is nearly complete in its restoration. We'll finally have a good restaurant in town.

We have a cabin down on the river that we bought as a get-away when we were working, and then our main place up the hill out of the flood plain approximately a block away.

This is the view from our back yard.
