I stand corrected. Indeed, John Quincy Adams was a United States Senator and an elected President. You can never know how embarrassing it is to me to have overlooked that fact. Let's just say that some of my ancestors are surely spinning in their graves about now. <vbg>

As penance, I deserved to miss post #3700.

Neil,

I am sorry to have to do this, but . . . I stand uncorrected. I did some further checking, and learned that John Quincy Adams was NOT elected by the people; rather, he was elected by the House of Representatives when none of the other four candidates garnered a majority of votes in the national election.

I may not always be right, but I'm never wrong. <vvvbg>
