Vic,

In your post that I'm responding to, you ask a question of some unnamed people ( or their names may have been misspelled ). Perhaps I can help.

You ask >>>>Whats your take on whose dsp and microcode would be best.Thats what I am focused on now. What are the parameters for efficient deployment of dvgs within the worldcom network.Do you know ,I do. After speaking with the techies at ftel I'm quite happy with our progress. <<<<<

As I'm sure you know Ftel filed an S-1a on 1/27/98. Link below. ( the link below is to Ftel's search page on Edgar, just follow links for Ftel's filings ).

freeedgar.com

In that filing on " 1/27/98 " Ftel states and I quote,

>>>>>Competition is also expected to focus increasingly on overseas markets, in which Internet services are just beginning to be introduced. Although the Company has established sales of its data communications hardware products overseas, " >>>>FNet is not presently seeking to penetrate overseas markets for Internet services. To the extent that the ability to provide Internet services overseas becomes a competitive advantage in the Internet services industry, the failure of FNet to penetrate overseas markets may result in FNet being at a competitive disadvantage relative to other Internet access providers. <<<< "
The Company has recently entered the Internet telephony business, and plans to sell hardware products and (through FNet) provide telephone service in this new business area. There is no assurance that this new business venture will be successful. The current and prospective competitors in this business include many large companies that have substantially greater market presence and financial, technical, marketing and other resources than the Company and FNet. The Company and FNet compete (or in the future are expected to compete)directly or indirectly with the following categories of companies in the Internet telephony business: (i) PC software providers such as VocalTec,Inter-Tel and ITXC Corp.; (ii) PC to PC telephony product suppliers such as VDONet, Inc. and Netspeak; (iii) Internet telephony hardware product suppliers such as Micom, Cisco Systems, Bay Networks and 3COM; (iv) telecommunications equipment vendors such as Lucent Technologies, Siemens and Nortel; and (v)
Internet telephony service providers such as Delta Three, Inc., Networks Telephony Corp., IDT and Concentric Networks.<<<<

To put this in it's proper perspective, read back to Ftels' Wcom's press release 1/7/98, link below.

ftel.com

In this press release Ftel states and I quote below,

>>>>In addition, the WorldCom agreement will allow early deployment to key overseas locations. Peters continued, "One of our priorities is to provide FNet coverage to international locations which are important to American based multi-national corporations. We are pleased that our arrangement with WorldCom will allow us to move into this area more quickly than we anticipated. The Franklin Tempest Data Voice Gateways will be interconnected by a private intranet and the public Internet, thus providing very low cost telephone service through our global telephone network." <<<<<

My response and questions are; Why does Ftel state, their priorities are to provide Fnet coverage to International locations on 1/7/98, and in their S-1a filing on 1/27/98 ( 20 days later ) state that they are not presently seeking to penetrate overseas markets for Internet services ? Perhaps you can clear this up ?
