Dear ,RFJock, Since you're very knowledgeable about this field, could you please comment on the following news pieces: ====================================================== 12/24/97 Spectrian Corp. Shareholders File Class Action Suit SAN DIEGO (Dow Jones)--Shareholders of Spectrian Corp. (SPCT) filed a lawsuit seeking class action status alleging the company misled investors and falsely inflated its stock price. In a press release Wednesday, lawfirms representing the shareholders said the complaint alleges defendants caused Spectrian's stock price to rise from $12 a share to $64 a share. Spectrian and its "top insiders," the law firm alleges, then sold 2,358,882 shares at as much as $45 a share for $101 million. The law firm further alleges that defendants told the market that demand for its products and relationships with the company's two largest customers would lead to earnings in fiscal 1998 of $2.24 to $2.45 a share, and three-to-five year earnings growth of 20% to 40%. In October, the law firm said, when it was revealed that Spectrian lost an important new contract with its second largest customer and its largest customer had engaged a second source of supply, a sharp decline in the company's stock ensued. . .Q: Who are the two largest customers of Spectrian? Is the largest customer, NT? Who is the second largest one? Is it AT&T? Q: What types of amps does Spectrian supply? Do they supply both the base station and the cell phones amps? Which power amps protocol does Spectrian support, CDMA, TDMA, GSM, AMPS or TACS? Q: Does Spectrian have 75% of their business in NT? Did Spectrian loose the business because of quality problems? Q: Who else are the suppliers of power amps besides Spectrian and Powerwave? ======================================================= 1/28/98 Powerwave Tech Gets $5M In Orders From Northern Telecom IRVINE, Calif. (Dow Jones)--Powerwave Technologies Inc. (PWAV) received $5 million in orders from Northern Telecom Ltd. (NT) In a press release Wednesday, Powerwave said it will supply ultra-linear multicarrier radio frequency power amplifiers that Northern Telecom will use in its TDMA digital cellular networks. The orders, which include Powerwave's ultra-linear 40 and 50-watt multicarrier cellular amplifiers and associated combiners, began delivery during the fourth quarter and are expected to be completed during the first quarter. Powerwave and Nortel are developing amplifiers for CDMA digital cellular base stations. Powerwave and Northern Telecom are in talks to complete a global supply agreement. If approved, Nortel and its related companies would purchase power amplifiers from Powerwave. . . Q: Could you speculate that Spectrian lost its NT business to Powerwave? Q: If so, what percentage of the NT business do you speculate Powerwave will receive? Which types of power amps do you think Powerwave will likely supply to NT? Q: Does Powerwave have the production capability to meet demand in case they get new contracts? Q: Who currently supply amps to Nokia? Q: Could you rank the size of Nokia, NT, Samsung, AT&T? Q: Do Nokia and NT sell cell phones to Asia? Are their business affected by Asia? NT commented in their news that they will cut down orders for amps with Spectrian. Does that mean they will go to a different supplier or their business is actually slowing down? Q: Who are currently the domestic customers of Powerwave? Q: In the long term future, do you think that the phone manufacturers will continue to buy amps from suppliers such as Spectrian, Powerwave or will they someday manufacture their own? ====================================================== RFJock, I really appreciate your help in answering those questions.
