After a hurricane one year we were without power for 17 days! And...my wife had her mother to provide for who was in her mid 80's. We could have probably rode it out without her mom. Don't get me wrong, she was a lovely lady and I really liked her, but she was not dealing with this situation well AT ALL. We ended up driving about 40 miles to the nearest hotel with power and stayed there until they got the power back on. We also had two kids aged 7 and 4 and a black lab!! THAT was an exercise in parenting!!!
