You should read his articles. He is less hyperbolic than George Packer, but considerably more damaging. Their views, and the views of many other former Republicans, is that Trump is a cancer to the country as a whole and massive corruptive influence to the GOP. They hate Trump b/c from their perspective Trump destroyed the party and the country that they love. One of the most damaging things that has been going on in the US since at least the Obama years, but likely since the GWB years, is that the notion of shared reality has been thrown out of the window. The people and the parties used to disagree as to how best to address a problem (and occasionally as to what the problem is). But for the past 10 - 20 years, Americans cannot agree on the facts. This is a serious problem that if not corrected will eventually lead to a lot of violence. You obviously disagree with the anti-Trump view. And that is fine. People don't have to agree with each other, but they must understand each other. Not every pro-Trump is a foaming at the mouth anti-science racist. And not every anti-Trump is keen on selling out his country to global interests while engaging in child pornography and recreational drugs. People should make a real effort to understand each other, even if ultimately they end up disagreeing with each other. BTW, one of the best shows on TV for becoming familiar with Black (and to a lesser extent Latino) perspectives is The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. I don't find the show very funny. And you will not like his politics (you can safely ignore the parts that deal with party lines). But I have found him to be exceptionally well read and intelligent. The show has been very educational for me. For example, the other day he focused on why some black and Latino voters support Trump. Aside from his personal perspective, he brought in people from the academia and activists. The answers were interesting. At other times he has dug into the issues around the riots, the policing, and so on. It will take you a while to get used to him. But you will end up understanding the other side...or at least the non-white side.
