Pro sports has traditionally been a love affair between the players, teams, and fans. Free agency vastly increased the movement of players between teams. Fantasy sports now makes it easy to root for guys on other teams. And covid has necessitated empty stadiums. To top it off, pro sports used to be a refuge from "real life". Somewhere in the last few years, pro sports has been politicized. That's why, though I still have my favorite teams to keep me watching, I get true enjoyment watching HS and college kids play for the love of the game and the pride of their school.
