Both EMC and MTIC supply high-end storage arrays. EMC is an excellant product in that it offers many fail-over systems to minimize the chance of a hardware failure. This is by far EMC's #1 selling point - a system that will supply 7x24 support! On most systems, the single most problem to predict is MTTF (Mean time to failure) since this can greatly enhance the reliability of your system. EMC offers both "RAID S" and "RAID 1+0" to ensure up time as well as many redundant fail-over systems in the event a piece hardware fails. When dealing with a mission critical system your storage devices are the key to ensuring your system is 100% available (other components can easily by swapped out in the event of a failure). Enough on EMC (this is the MTIC thread), I have been sold with their technology for several years and believe they have by far the best product available (period) - this is why I have invested in their technology not only with my own cash but risking my reputation by pushing EMC's technology. One drawback to EMC is their price - very, very expensive to say the least (my reply: you get what you pay for). This brings me to MTIC, their Gladiator disk drives have many of the same features as that of the EMC drives but they are far less expensive. I truely believe this will bode well for MTIC in that they offer a low-cost alternative to that of EMC. The only flaw that I see in MTIC is their lack of marketing; perhaps they are conservative, but one thing that seperates EMC from MTIC is their sales! Always available, willing to assist, onsite support, 24 hour tech reps available to predict problems - MTIC does not have a sales/technical assistance force to offer this 1-to-1 relationship. How many adds have we seen with respect to MTIC? Now ask the same about EMC? (Hell, EMC sponsers a major PGA event). Most clients don't want to worry about their systems; if their system will run non-stop most organizations are willing to pay a premium for that 'peace of mind'. In time most people will recognize that MTIC offers the same technology as EMC at a fraction of the cost - this in time will allow MTIC to compete in the same market as EMC (time will tell). P.S.: If anyone says the two (EMC & MTIC) are not in competition does not understand the the fundemental principals in constructing a large mission critical system. Both deal with the storage of large amounts of data....how could they not be in competition? Long on EMC and MTIC, but hedging my bet that MTIC's growth outlook far exceeds that of EMC (my opinion only - hope I am right)
