jim, G* telephony will handle both GSM and CDMA period. Don't forget that G* is a worldwide service provider, and that means Europe (last I checked) and Europe means GSM (at least for now). As further proof, note that one of G*'s handset suppliers is Ericy. Ericy is to GSM as QCOM is to CDMA--they are arch enemies to be sure but you didn't think Bernard Schwartz would let LOR and G* get caught short by exclusively tying G*'s fate to one side of the religous jihad, now did you?
Finally, concentrate on the announcement at the Q's last earnings release re: the successful Vodaphone trials. Vodaphone is a partner in G* and a major telecom carrier in Europe. QCOM has demonstrated soft handoff in air to air interface meaning that that a CDMA call can be "passed" through to GSM and the guy on the phone won't know the difference. Personally, I think this is big news, kinda like the camel's nose under the tent and the path that CDMA will use to infiltrate Europe. But I'm a QCOM nut.
And on that last point: please take a long look at the Q: it ain't tanking unless you consider doubled sales and tripled earnings signs of weakness! Regards, Mike Doyle
