We may never know just how many Genghis Khan and other warrior rulers of that period slaughtered. britannica.com

I recently finished a book about Alexander the Great. He did well to conquer people but keep their rulers and their men alive if they swore allegiance so they could work and pay taxes. We can probably blame corrupt politicians on Alexander as the reward for supporting him was the ability to add more taxes to the people they ruled, as long as Alexander got paid.

I believe men from one part of my family "escaped" France to immigrate to the US to be servants because the men were very short and felt they would not survive the wars they would be expected to fight in.

We don't know much about my Dad's side of the family from the Viking states other than my Norwegian grandmother married my Swedish grandfather in San Francisco after both their families had to leave N. Dakota and Wyoming when farms wouldn't support families. Her bother, a carpenter, came first and built a house on the sand dunes of SF that is now "The Sunset District" with those side by side homes selling for over $1M.

Anyway, the current migration now is most of the family left the Bay Area for more affordable places.
