Rock, "The belt-loop holster idea of mine that started as a joke is looking like the only real way to use this drive"

Maybe you could use the top of your head, it seems like it might provide a non-tippy resting place. <g>

"I haven't even seen that Hitachi prototype they had at Comdex."
Wow, I thought for sure Iomega and Hitachi would have been clamoring to get your review...

But, getting back to the size issue--it seems clear that an external Clik! drive won't bloat an existing device (it CAN'T), and that an internal drive, drawing power off the OEM device, would only increase the size by the stated dimensions. Would you call a .256" increase in thickness "bloating?" Take that Casio, the one that fits in your pocket, and substitute the dimensions of the internal Clik! drive for the current storage media. How much "bloating" do you get? What are the dimensions of FlashCard slot and associated circuitry?

Rocky, I'm waiting to see a picture of the "real thing" i.e. you instead of Harrison Ford. I just read about the many uses of Clik! on the unofficial IOM web page. As a foreward looking person it seems like Clik has the potential to be a big moneymaker for the co. in the 2nd half of '98. Now if they could line up a few big digital photography co.'s to include Clik in the cameras all the better. SR
P.S. Ira Springel thinks anyone who posts to you is intellectually challenged. I disagree.

Battery Size for an external Click.

Looks like we have some healthy discussion about what batteries would do to the size of Click.

I'm thinking about some of the electronic devices I have now that use batteries. At work I carry around a Motorola radio that clips to my belt. The radio is about the size of a TV remote control. It has a great battery back that's about the same size as the radio and it clips onto the back of the radio making changing batteries easy. I just push a button pop off the old clip put it in a charger then put in a freshly charged clip. The whole thing is light and hardly noticeable. I clip the radio onto my belt along with the Mic speaker combo that's on a telephone like cord.

My GPS uses 4aa batteries that fit inside the unit. It also has an attachment that plugs into an external battery source. No problem there.

My Nikon n2000 35mm camera can shoot as memory serves 3 frames a sec. It has 4 AAA batteries (smaller than AA) auto focus and other electronic features. Last year I shot about 20 rolls of film (Vacation arils shots etc) I have not changed the batteries in years. Umm Maybe I should just to be on the safe side. I do use the camera for Ariel photos a lot. Sometimes I fly just to take pictures at the cost of about $ 50- $130 hr to fly depending on the plane I use. Anyway the battery size is not noticeable. The Flash on the camera uses 4 AA. Aegean the Battery size is no factor. About ¬ of the flash units size is batteries that fit inside the unit.

My hand held GPS uses 4 AA that account for about 1/8 the size of the unit. Aegean Battery sizes not a factor.

I think in the end it comes down to that they can make batteries in lots of sizes and shapes. As In the case of the radio I carry at work. Heck the Battery in my Motorcycle is just slightly bigger than my External Zip drive. And that Battery has enough power to start my Ninja. Maybe I'm not technical enough to see a problem with batteries. Basically every hand held battery powered device I have ever used doesn't have a battery problem. Ok I'm thinking Clic needs to spin a disk so maybe it will need more power than other devices and therefor a bigger battery. But then I think the Motorola radio needs a lot of power to be able to transmit and receive all day and its battery size is no factor. I also think the power usage for Clic would be only when your using the think like my camera. I don't think it would take much more power to spin the disk than turn a roll a film. But then clic will use power to write to the disk. But I don't think that will be any more of a power drain than the flash of my camera. Oh I have original batteries in the camera flash and the unit is at least 5 years old.

Maybe I don't understand something or I miss understand you Rocky. Do you see batteries or battery size as a problem?

Best to you Bob
