That actually comes from the great philosopher Charles Pierce who was also the originator of the word pragmatism which either William, or Henry James stole from him?

He made the point everyone is always in one of three states of belief: belief, doubt or disbelief.

Apples and oranges with regard to belief and knowledge, and I was not addressing the apples-lol.

This has nothing to do with knowledge, it is about a state of mind at any given time.

Everyone is always in one of those three states of mind. Always-lol.

Even if you have knowledge about something, that would still put you in one of the three states of mind..

PS he also said:" It fortifies my soul to know that though I perish truth is so.'

I loved this guy-lol

But it has been over 50 years since I have read him.

<,

<Everyone believes something one way or the other: belief, disbelief or doubt.>

No you are confusing "knowing" and "believing" - they are not the same at all even though our language allows them to be used the same way.

Spanish has a better distinction into their language. I wish we did.

saber, conocer vs.
creer
