Hpeace... I strongly believe that the management ability of a corporation is vital. As I am not as familiar with CPQ as you are
I am very appreciative for your insights now and also in the past.
Hopefully, I can reciprocate in the future to you and others on this
thread.

Please do not misunderstand my concern for potential obstacles.

The information I have concerning CPQ and E. Pfeiffer, in particular,
are extremely positive and I expect a positive outcome of the DEC
acquisition. EP's comments point out an understanding for DEC but possibly not for Mr. Palmer. (IMO)

Having attended and directed my share of corporate seminars and suggested books to read, I have concluded the following: (sorry, if I dissapoint you)

The object is behavior modification ("brainwashing"), hopefully, in a
positive corporate sense (let's assume that to be the agenda here). Some recepients take exactly what they are meant to receive. Some take the defensive attitude, "they couldn't mean me. They must be talking about that V.P. in the other division." Little sinks in because of prejudgment. Some take the attitude, "I already know this."
(Don't asked which one I am!)

On a project basis it vital to choose the correct person for the task.
It is my opinion that CPQ has all three groups that I mentioned above.

Ego was very important in building CPQ. That same person might not be
the right person on the transition project.

There is an American term called, "text book case".
Unfortunately this refers to only 1%-2% of the real life cases.
Books written on management subject are profoundly diverse within the
USA as well as globally. Usually they are also at least 3-5 years old
in thought. (Inspired, written, published, accepted, to market, used)

This said, I am hopeful that CPQ chooses a team not only schooled in the fundamentals of corporate mergers but also person of tact and
diplomacy.

Unfortunately, I can not reference the 7 specific points you mention.
Psychology courses can be extremely important but only to the correct
person. This would build a foundation for the individual to properly use and refine skills that they have aquired throughout their life.

Europe is under pressure for 2K ... and the economic union

It is very ripe for CPQ.

I am very interested to know what they will sell off from DEC.
The first question on my mind Monday was what are the losses carried
forward from DEC. I heard between 2-3 bil. Do you know?
An additional charge estimate for layoffs, transition, etc. would also be interesting.
What about the two DEC execs who went to Tandem? Any news?
