GTW's 4Qtr success was a failure for Compaq. Investment managers know this, its time the Pollyannas on this thread realize this. They tried to kill GTW with sub-par cheap machines, GTW kept prices and features up and succeeded. CPQ tried to cripple GTW's high-end Destination PC-TV line with their own version and failed miserable with a unit at twice the price of GTW. HWP was gaining on network servers for larger firms, and in desperation CPQ buys Digital. This was a long term survival tactic, not a strategic growth initiative. While this may dissuade many investors from CPQ, I like it since it makes CPQ a much safer investment even though growth will slow to the teens as a result.
