Jim, a friend of mine who is from HP, told me that about a year ago. But could not or would not answer as to why HP would want S3. I am still at a loss for a reason, but it would seem the rumor still exist.

<Rumor has it that HP is looking at S3. Any speculation as to why HP would be
interested in S3 ?>

HP has a goal of becoming the world's largest PC maker by 2000. Their own graphics company could be a part of that strategy. They have recently been acquiring many smaller companies. BTW, HP could by S3 with pocket change. They have sales of approx. $57 billion.

I wouldn't place much credibility into this rumor. This rumor has/is/was been circulating around at Cirrus since they went public in 1990. As well as T.I., INTEL, AMD, NATIONAL SEMI, etc. etc. .
