"When I was in biology class the answer was the absence of a Y chromosome"

Not something which is checked before the gender is put on the birth certificate.

As I understand it trans people have XYs that are mixed up. There are genes associated with men which should go to the X chromosome but somehow end up with the Y. There was this painter on public TV who said, "Happy little accidents."

Regardless, the evidence is increasing that trans is as natural as being gay but then there are still people who don't feel good about gays. Science doesn't care about feelings.

I could care less. Sex is sex. Doesn't bother me one bit.

It comes down to flawed thinking. Of mistaking the model or classification for the "truth". And forcing a binary decision when it is a logistic function.

Biology has done many back-pedals from the original Linnaean taxonomy classifications that represented excellent initial efforts, despite sometimes being terribly wrong in the end.
