Yeah David, I've thought about that. But I don't consider the death penalty a deterrent (only in the sense that you permantly remove the offender). Most of the individuals that I would like to see get the death penalty are true sociopaths that wouldn't be influenced by a rational thought process as to what penalty would they receive if they commit murder. It's the Karla Faye Tuckers of the world that are the best argument against the death penalty (along with the potential of a wrongful conviction). I heard that Pope John Paul tried to intervene on her behalf. But it seems Texas has this situation whereby the decision is really made by this "faceless" board of 16 people. I wonder, did that happen as a result of Ann Richards?
