Gene, Re: I still think Intel expected the transition to be faster.

Again, having heard their Q4 report and the followup Q&A, I feel comfortable with their enthusiasm in the PII transition. They say it's going better than even the MMX transition.

> Covington seems like a knee jerk reaction to the market

This is interesting, we obviously have different perspectives on Intel. What you see as "knee jerk reaction", I see as swift and speedy adaptation to new market conditions. A couple of months ago Intel announced that they are creating distinct departments to address specific market segments. 2 months later we see the result. It was originally assumed that it would take Intel until Q498 to address the sub-1000 market. Covington however is due out in April. It impresses me to see a giant like Intel move so swiftly.

> The PC makers and the market have much more influence over what Intel produces then ever before.

Not "more than ever before". Historically Intel has seen much worse before. I wouldn't write off Intel's influence either. They ARE the monopoly. Obviously there's some price pressures at this time but I don't see it as menacing as you do. I think the worst is behind us.

Shahen.

<FF, just expressing my opinions in response to a post directed to me, OK?>

No problem <GG>. The only thing that seems strange is that you remain long INTC while predicting gloom and doom for INTC and great things for AMD. Why haven't you put your money where you mouth (and opinions) is and trade in your INTC for AMD??? According to your "opinions" and analysis AMD should be a no-brainer while INTC should see rough sailing for the rest of 1998.

So, I ask you again; have you invested in AMD yet? You have been telling me for many months how you think AMD will be a winner. You said this when the stock was much higher. Shouldn't it be an even better bargain now??

I have absolutely no problem with differing opinions and, in fact, welcome the exchange of ideas. However, I find your investment decisions in direct opposition to your own "opinions". IMO, anyone who believes what you are saying would be a fool to continue holding INTC.

Good luck,

FF
