AFCI can beat up DIGI on its own. DIGI is poorly managed but is entrenched at many customers because they were the provider of 2nd generation digital loop carrier (DLC) boxes. Now we are on 3rd generation DLC's where AFCI is trying to beat out DIGI but DIGI/Nortel won the last RBOC bake-off.

Lucent buying DIGI would be the worst situation for AFCI. LU resells AFCI equipment in China which it would stop doing if it purchased DIGI.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to such b/c it is all speculative. It is just a risk to be aware of and looks increasingly likely as its stock is in the tank.
