Stop the press: AMD/CYRIX joint communique
Paul:I hear their next news release will say 'we only loose a little bit of money on each sale, but we make it up on volume' <VBG>

PS: Sorry AMD/CYRIX, just kidding.

Paul,

From my business experience, Intel would have more fear of AMD/Cyrix if they were selling 1/3 of their current volume, but they were selling at a profit.

You don't build an end-user franchise selling at a loss, it's a dead end strategy. If I were an AMD/Cyrix shareholder, I would suggest that they raise their prices to profitable levels and compete on performance and service and the fact that they are an alternative. They could then build a business (more slowly) based on sound finances. At least if you lose that battle, you have taken the high road. (I don't know if I would own Apple, but you have to respect their current focus on selling profitable, deferentiated product, maybe too late).

The street seems to have caught on, based on AMD/Cyrix current stock prices.

John

Paul,
RHave you noticed that BOTH Cyrix and AMD are using the SAME
excuse:

"DEMAND for our products is so great, we can't manufacture
enough - so we may lose money."E:"

You making up stuff now...I've never heard AMD of Cyrix say they are actually losing money because demand is too great. At least not NSM, they just say Cyrix is a drag right now...
Then again have you ever heard MAD admit they are losing money because they can't yield any chips? <G>
Jim
