william, i have been looking back over conf call notes and what i have written down from the 18 feb 97 c call is that packet was 43% of revenues for the qtr which was a 25% sequential gain. interesting looking at this as in that qtr vivid growth was 80 SEQUENTIALLY and approaching 5% of revenues. (don't have the press release with total revenues in front of me. if you don't have it, i know it's available on nn's web site. i am not quite sure what that paragraph you pasted is saying anyway. the wording is different than usual and is confusing to me.

are you as stunned by the revenue # as i am? i think everyone on the planet knew they were going to miss the qtr but that's why i felt even .20 for the qtr was more than priced into the stock. but .07 on $360mm in revenues!!?? never in my wildest dreams. when i saw that i didn't believe it at first, thinking there was some type of canadien vs us$ gaff. i can't see how they turned ANY profit for the qtr with that revenue #. only way i can see is if they are going to hide some of the expenses in the restructuring charge.

i have been nagging them for 2 years to start pulling the purse strings a little tighter on s g and a. maybe they'll listen now. even if they were meeting growth estimates, i feel they should/should have been getting better net margins thru a little fiscal restraint. r and d has seemed high to me too given the joint development with siemens.

i really hope they answer questions on the call tomorrow about some of the contract news (us west going to csco, some of the things asnd alluded to on their call, etc). in fact asnd said that the 36190 had been pulled from trials and was delayed 'indefinately' when asked about it (granted, asnd/cscc has been known to be full of shit on their calls in the past). anyway......back to work. wished the call had been tonight; 5am san francisco time is a bit cruel.

all imo only....nick
