Asia Sat as a collaborator with Loral for DTH in SE Asia was the reason I advanced for their possible purchase of an L-Star satcom. Purchasing it would give them a partnership with Loral for a currently cash strapped DTH undertaking. Partnership is the only way to reliquefy ABCN. Asia Sat and Loral together could have partnered for DTH with Loral owning one L-Star bird, Asia Sat the other.

AsiaSat may have other furrows to plow, however. Or perhaps Loral partnership interests further east.

A good friend of mine, who used to work on satellites at Hughes, told me today that he thought there are usually as many as 100 people working on any one satellite, which would seem to fit well with the discontinuation of work on 3 satellites (300 layoffs). The additional rumor of 400 more layoffs, would seem either extreme or dire depending on your perspective (4 more satellites undeliverable. . .). Let's hope for a less windy morning tomorrow.
Cheers,
Tom
