Is it possible a good percentage here, don't want the thread moderated, i.e. "censured"? If someone does not like a joke or the poster, SI has the ignore feature. There have been some pretty bad jokes here in the past, if it's a one off, I tend to forget about it. If that poster seems to post nothing but "bad', or "offensive" joes, they go on ignore. There is no way to please everyone. Some people will find some jokes offensive.

I'll throw my hat into the ring for the exciting opportunity to become moderator of this venerable joke thread!! I've been posting and reading since the thread opened twenty-five years ago. I have joke #24 from 1996! Do I sound too eager?? Hopefully for my sake, my eagerness doesn't compel other applicants to also volunteer for this amazing position! That said, one of the qualities I feel SI has had over other sites is the mostly hands-off approach to moderation for most of those years. Moderators too easily become dictators which taints the board. I view these boards as a collection of like-minded people who like jokes rather than a rigorous historical documentation of comedy which must be made pristine with military-type regulation. If you don't mind a weak moderator who mostly looks the other way and who might resign if it becomes too taxing, I'll volunteer until you can find someone better. I also won't be sour if/when I'm booted from the role. You wouldn't get full service in enforcement, though. For example if the meat of a political joke is actually a joke, I would put the onus on the offended readers to click on past.
