That's not what happened, and the details matter. This is a case of MSNBC and the others exaggerating what is actually a pretty minor negative on Trump's part to make him look foolish and uncaring. Woodward no doubt quoted Trump accurately, but news reports were universally false. What he said, according to Woodward, was that "the coronavirus was 'more deadly' than 'even your strenuous flus' and 'it goes through the air.' He said, "This is deadly stuff." He also said, "a lot of people think it goes away with in April with the heat". And the US was in "great shape" by comparison with many other countries. That was the upshot of what was said. That was on February 7, 2020. It was the media's big highlight. Now, before I tell you to put it in context, I will point out you're getting your information from MSNBC and NYT, etc., who are very careful to always put Trump in the most negative light. Trump stated a fact: "Coronavirus is more deadly than even your strenuous flus." That is a true statement, but lacks the context of the spread. On February 7, the US had yet to experience its first Covid death. Moreover, it would be MARCH 1 before we were aware of any Covid death. That is a pretty big item to leave out of these interviews with Woodward. The US had yet to see its first death? Of course he knew it was "deadly" -- as in "potentially". But we had not seen it here and still didn't know whether we would. So, he was absolutely correct in everything he told Woodward, and had it been played on the air on that day it would have been a perfectly acceptable statement by any president.11 days after Trump's comments, Fauci said, "I don't think people should be frightened, the risk right now, today, currently, is really relatively low for the American public. But that could change, because what's going on outside of the US, particularly obviously in China . . . this could evolve into a global pandemic . . . which would then have significant implications for us, so although we don't want people to be worried now, I think we need to realize that this could change. So, right now don't worry about it, be more concerned about influenza . . ." (1) Anthony Fauci on coronavirus: risk is 'low for the American public' | USA TODAY - YouTube So, TRUMP was certainly far less "misleading" than Fauci was nearly two weeks after that. The lie here came from the media, and was soaked up by you -- who like everyone else on this thread, is far too compliant to parse media accounts appropriately. That's right...this bastard should be in prison for criminal negligence. This is a truly absurd statement. I'd forgotten how ridiculous you can be in your hatred at times. What, exactly, did he do that was "criminal" or "negligent". I've shredded your account above. Not one credible criticism you lodged. So, he should be put in prison? Maybe that's how they do it were you come from, but it explains why the peaceful protests on Jan 6 were necessary, even if insufficient. Next time, I hope for something bigger and better.
