True for most German brands and you can see it in the depreciation when they get off warranty and older.


If you maintain them depreciation is not bad at all. I bought a 1993 BMW M5 new for about $65k and sold it 2 years ago for $50k. Of course it helped that it was very collectible. I still kick myself for not buying a Ferrari Dino for about $10k when I was working in Germany in 1973. They now sell for around $400k.

EDIT: I missed my M5 so much I bought a 1991 M5 for $21k about 6 weeks after I sold the '93. I'm fairly sure I could get $30k for it now but I'm not making that mistake again!
