There were many in the right place at the right time who failed. So Gates deserves full credit for the course he has pursued. However MSFT has evolved to a natural monopoly due to the fact that it was a good deal, worked well, etc. However now that it has arrived in monopolyville it must take care not to use it's natural monopoly in the OS to cross subsidize competition into other areas, enduring to the point where the others go broke. IMO the insistence on IE4 as well as requiring it ot be inatslled for other apps and the free price
= an irrestible attack on Netscape. Since it is free the entire cost has been cross subsidised from the OS money mill.

Case made.

The companies would get a proportion of the assets and cash when they split, and would be traders in their own right with cash, assets, products and the ability to raise funds in the market like any others.

The third company would be Keyboards, mice, and other hardware items.
