Security library error?

Thanks for the info Peter. I am using Navigator 4.04, and on the new site I get "Security Library Error" messages every so often. It warns that "you may no longer be able to access this site securely". There does not seem to be any real effect however.

Are other people seeing this problem?

Edwin

Peter,

Where can I find the rule (limitation, fees) associated with the checking account?

Many Thanks!

Nice new site Peter! I enjoy using it in off hours to research however, I can't stand the wait during the day when I want a quick quote fix and go back to the old site(s). BTW, the old site (at least orders6) has lost the chart/news button which is an immense inconvience ===> PLEASE PUT IT BACK WHEN YOU GET THE CHANCE.

Also, have others been experiencing an unusual number of broken pipeline messages over the past few days?

I much prefer the Old table format for a list of quotes; format
is way cleaner, easier to read.

Also, black on black for the menu items is insane. Not at all
easy to read -- why should every single item have to be moused-over
before it can be read? Very time consuming.

OTHERWISE, no complaints here.

Peter, here is yet another vote for leaving the quote tables on the old servers as they are now. They are simple, compact, and clear.

The new layouts are fine for the infrequent investor but not for the trader. Please don't clutter the old quotes.

orders2 has the "new classic" look. This is NOT progress.

But doubting you'll give it up, a few comments.

1) move the quote time to just above the quotes like it used to be, not above the buttons and Stock Symbols line.

2) add a ";" after "&nbsp" ie " " because netscape 4.04 doesn't understand "&nbspUp" and "&nbspDn" and they show up as these 7 char strings.

3) lose the super/subscripts in fractions as this costs precious vertical space which is more important than the savings of horizontal space. And I, for one, find the fractions more readable without the super/subscripts.

My 2 cents on "Classic Datek"...

After playing around with the new site this week, I feel I should join the chorus of folks shouting at you that the old site is much better, and that you should--as you have said you would--keep it, permanently.

My viewpoint is that of a daytrader who makes 80-100 trades a month (plus innumerable false starts, cancellations, stop-sets, etc.) and who monitors quotes constantly throughout the trading day. I settled on Datek after experiencing E*Trade, eSchwab and Lombard/(Discover)and finding them not as suitable for daytrading.

As others have pointed out:
1. The new site is too fussy, not clean, harder to read.
2. You can see more stocks without scrolling on Classic Datek.
3. It's easier to click around to Open Orders etc, on the old site.

These things all matter because speed is so important in daytrading.

The most important problem on the new site, for me, however, is that once an order is placed and the confirm screen comes up, I do not get to see the spread. The spread is of the utmost importance to me in deciding whether to pull the trigger.

I very much appreciate Datek's open and responsive attitude here on SI.
I think the product is great.
I look forward, patiently, to Level II and All or None.
I do like, very much, the charts available on the new site.

Datek's major problems, as I currently see them, are that:

1. It is not consistently reliable during the first half hour of trading, nor during the last ten minutes of the day, prime trading times.

2. The site seems to slow down, or quit, too often, when I use it heavily. I deal with this by keeping more than one window open to it, and switching windows when this happens, or by re- entering. I am utterly technologically-impaired, so this may well be some Internet or computer-related problem and not Datek.

On a lighter note: green is a delightful, restful color, too often necessary to nervous daytraders. I'd vote to keep it on Classic Datek.

Peter, I have a revolutionary idea! All character based, pure ascii, blinding speed. User requests 30 bytes data, you ship 30 bytes (+ CR,LF, if necessary.) You will make scads of friends and happy, profitable traders whose blood pressure will be 20 points down from now. Where to get this new technology? Eh?

TELNET!

Quick, be the first. Buck the trend. Make history!

Best wishes,
Bill

Well Peter, You finally hit me with the "New & Great" classic interface since I've been end running it on orders6. I've only got one thing to say, "It sucks!!!" The table sucks, the colors suck, it now has to read 32K instead of the 15K with the old interface which is making it load twice as slow, the only thing good about it has no Datek logo at the top. Answer one Question... What's more important, pleasing your trading customers or outdoing the latest and greatest new fangled Internet broker? I have a feeling it's the latter... Put it back the way it was!!!!! At least on only 1 or 2 servers and keep the trash for your yuppie customers....

I agree completely with John Sugas that the new Classic interface is both an eyesore and a bandwidth hog relative to the OLD Classic interface. And now the new Classic has proliferated to several more servers.

This is NOT progress. This is regress.

I am afraid this will funnel more and more people to the remaining few servers running the old interface and thus overload them.

Datek used to listen to its customers. Please listen this time. Put it back the way it was.

Well Peter... A couple more customers are getting pissed besides me. I personally can not believe that you would think the "New Classic" is better than the old one. Have you even taken the time to look at it?? The columns look like they all run together... UnReal!!! Like MJR commented... Leave the stupid fancy stuff to the porn sites, unless that's the crowd you're trying to attract....

Peter, one more fix needed on the "new classic" page:

You need to add an   to any table cell that is empty (for example, the change cell when there has been no change from the closing price).

Otherwise, some browsers will not render the background color for the cell, and will leave a white space.

The   will act as a "place holder" and fool the browser into thinking there is something in the cell. (There is - a space!)

At the same time, I join with the others here is saying that I preferrred the "old classic", but you're determined so, please, at least get it right.
