N00/888, Routing and Calling Card IN Services

New System Capabilities Enable Cost-Effective Service Enhancements

DALLAS, Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- DSC Communications Corporation
(NASDAQ:DIGI) announced today new enhanced services for its INfusion(TM)
Intelligent Service Peripheral (ISP). Using DSC's advanced intelligent
network (IN) platform, carriers will be able to deliver such services as
Enhanced N00/888, Routing and Calling Card IN services. These advanced
applications are in testing now with a major long-distance carrier, and
general availability is scheduled for this spring.
The INfusion ISP is a UNIX-based system which integrates the functions of
a Service Control Point (SCP) and Intelligent Peripheral (IP) into one service
delivery platform for use with DSC's tandem product family. By pooling these
functions, the INfusion ISP can provide database look-up, digit collection and
interactive voice response all on a single network node, thus providing for
such enhanced applications as:

-- Enhanced N00/888 (also known as Service Access Code [SAC]) Service,
which allows subscribers to establish a single, toll-free telephone
number that callers may use to reach them at multiple locations.
-- Enhanced Routing, which enables carriers to screen and route incoming
and outgoing calls according to pre-set criteria.
-- Calling Card Services, which offer more customizable features over
traditional calling card services. Subscribers can have calls billed
to a calling card account rather than the number from which they place
a call. This provides single billing for calls from different
locations and can be a convenient asset for frequent travelers or
business customers.

"Our tandem customers who wish to differentiate themselves from the
competition and offer the latest in advanced services will find the INfusion
ISP to be a cost-effective match for their long-distance networks," said DSC's
Bruce Hill, vice president, IN Division. "DSC's INfusion ISP combines network
functions on one telco-grade platform, giving carriers a streamlined
deployment process and a reduced capital investment."
The INfusion ISP Enhanced N00/888 service provides number translation with
multiple calling options for each subscriber. With this enhanced capability,
a carrier can send a SAC call to a subscriber at more than one location (a
"Find me" service that can be conducted either sequentially or simultaneously)
or re-route or block calls as needed at certain times of the day, week or
year.
The INfusion ISP Enhanced Routing Service allows calls to be screened and
routed to different carriers based on call origination, destination (including
international calling points) and time of day, week or year.
Similarly, the INfusion ISP Calling Card Service allows operators to
customize and differentiate their services. For example, providers can
"brand" played announcements with a business subscriber's company name and
custom greeting for added name recognition.
"These kinds of tailored services make a carrier's network extremely
responsive to the individual needs of subscribers," said Hill. "They also
give a competitive edge to those network operators who choose to offer them."
All of these enhanced INfusion services were created using DSC's INfusion
Service Creation Environment (SCE), which features reusable Service
Independent Building Blocks (SIBBs). The flexibility of this SIBB-based
design allows the provider to customize the pre-packaged ISP services to meet
their individual subscriber and market requirements.

DSC Unveils New Narrowband Grooming Capability on iDCS(TM) Cross-Connect

DALLAS, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- DSC Communications Corporation (Nasdaq: DIGI) announced today the addition of narrowband grooming functionality on its wideband digital cross-connect system known as the iDCS(TM) (Integrated Digital Cross-connect System). With the addition of DSO-level grooming, the iDCS now provides, on a single 4/3/1/0 platform, both wideband and narrowband cross-connection functions, with network interfaces for synchronous, asynchronous and optical signal formats.

"The addition of these narrowband grooming capabilities makes DSC's iDCS an even more versatile and cost-efficient choice for today's carriers," said DSC's Russ Davis, vice president, Transport Products. "Network operators can take advantage of having so many features and functionalities provided on a single platform. The benefits of such a consolidated choice are obvious; simpler and faster deployment, lower space requirements, as well as more rapid provisioning and administration via a single element manager. All these advantages will help carriers achieve revenues more rapidly and at a lower cost."

The single-shelf DSO groomer can be initially equipped for as few as 28 DS1/E1 circuits, with room for expansion to 224 non-blocking DS1/E1 circuits. Additional narrowband groomer shelves can be added as network requirements dictate. The narrowband groomer is fully integrated into the iDCS and is controlled through the iDCS TL-1 command set, the internal menu mode or the graphical user interface of the element manager.

Incorporating both North American and international standard interfaces, the wideband/narrowband iDCS can be deployed as a gateway between SONET (Synchronous Optical Network) and SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) systems. The iDCS system offers a long list of DS1/E1, DS3/E3, OC-3/STM-1 and hybrid gateway features and multiplexing options. With its flexibility and interoperability, the iDCS is expected to be particularly attractive to such network operators as wireless carriers, CLECs (competitive local exchange carriers), CLDCs (competitive long-distance carriers), global network operators, and emerging carriers.
