The primary explanation appears to be the various issues around ramping capacity at an outdated Durham fab.

There are many 150mm lines in older fabs that do not have problems. A long time back one of their competitors was asked about their opinion of the Cree Durham problems. Their response was that all fabs have yield problems and all fabs need a yield improvement plan in place to keep them relevant.

It has been clear to me for a while that Mohawk is being rushed because they want to shut down Durham. At this point it would have been faster to buy someone with 150mm experience and fix the problem. Being a pure play with little diversity to solve problems seems to be majorly hindering progress. Perhaps relying on SUNY will give them that help with Mohawk but that has yet to be seen.

But it is what it is at this point. The strange comments to me this time centered around the inability to compete outside of long term wafer supply agreements and unable to compete in China with GAN on SiC.
