If our universe is something, and everything else is nothing, then that is a case of 'special pleading'.

The "universe" is subject to the past an current limitations of how the human mind works. We (reasonably) think in associations, and three dimensional space. Modern experimental knowledge -- through empirical evidence-- grew the logic for other theoretical dimensions. The masses are still bounded in the religious and/or Newtonian model and not equipped to comprehend the new theoretical landscape and new baselines of the physics of the cosmos. For better or worse, the words of Walt Whitman still works for most people: When I heard the learn’d astronomer, When the proofs, the figures, were ranged in columns before me, When I was shown the charts and diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them, When I sitting heard the astronomer where he lectured with much applause in the lecture-room, How soon unaccountable I became tired and sick, Till rising and gliding out I wander’d off by myself, In the mystical moist night-air, and from time to time, Look’d up in perfect silence at the stars.
