I have zero debt, I could live quite nicely on the same amount if it was tax free.

if you live in NY, CA, or IL, you can "earn" $55,000 by staying on unemployment.

In CA the weekly unemployment is $450 per week. Last year for the period they were giving out an additional $600 federal money the $55k would have been close but now the federal kicker is $300. ~$18.75 per hour assuming a 40 hour work week ($39k/year.) Might be able to get by on it in fly over country but not here in CA. Not that I don't think it's a disincentive to work for those on the margins.
