Did Japan get hit with something in 2018 that gave them resistance to Covid?

Japan excess deaths by month:

A clear pathogenic contribution immediately after the 17/18 flu peak - and inhabiting all of 2018 and 2019, then going into immunity in 2020.

2018 and 2019 bear seasonal symmetry not evident in past years - indicative of a Hope-Simpson pathogen.
