Pugs,

Here, here. Let us all say a prayer for her and for ourselves.

Pugs,

Regardless of any disagreements about RMIL, I agree 100% with this post.

This from a guy who makes a career out of pummeling or being pummeled for the enjoyment of others. I detect a strong case of cognitive dissonance here. (Or maybe you could call it hypocrisy)

I frankly have derived little enjoyment out of watching boxing. It is a brutal sport reflecting a level of violence that should be reserved for situations of self-defense, not profit.

As for Ms. Tucker.....

Do the crime, do the time, I say.

And death is certainly more merciful than life as a caged animal. (as well as less expensive) And its not like she was drawn and quartered, or burned at the stake like the "good 'ol days". They put her to sleep and we do that to our pets all the time.

If you take the life of another in a premeditated manner or in the commission of another crime (armed robbery.. etc), I feel strongly that the death penalty should be enforced.

But I certainly don't condone the vultures who take their entertainment in such a ghoulish manner.

Regards,

Ron

Pugs I whole heartedly agree with you here even though I rarely agree with you elsewhere.

I feel only a greater power than those of us on this earth has the right to take a life. I feel no compassion for a murderer but it is just not up to us to kill them.

One argument that some try to use is that it is less costly to put them to death than to keep them in jail for life. Well I also assume that everyone agrees that a lengthy appeal process is proper to ensure that a mistake is not made. Due to this it cost three times as much to put someone to death than to put them in jail for 40 years.

Sorry Pugs, I must disagree with you on this one.

"He who strikes a man so that he dies shall surely be put to death." Exodus 21:12-14

killing a murderer is nevertheless murder

The modern philosophy that cold-blooded murder (or mass murder) and capitol punishment are morally equivalent is tragically flawed. I suppose that that incarcerating a kidnapper is none the less kidnapping.

I do have some problems with capitol punishment. It is used disproportionately for people of color and the poor. Prosecutors are rewarded for getting a death sentence such that they sometimes even hide evidence that would prove innocence of the defendant. And on several occasions, late evidence that suggested innocence was ignored because it did not make the mandated deadline.

I believe that capitol punishment should be:
1) Reserved only for the most heinous of crimes against humanity
2) Require due diligence and overwhelmingly strong evidence
3) Be swift and humane
4) Be set aside if new evidence suggests a reasonable doubt as to the guilt of the defendant.

Carla Tucker's crimes warranted the death sentence. If in fact, she was a Christian, then she must accept that Her savior is also a Just God, and that it is His law that demanded her death. She hopefully found comfort in knowing that her eternal redemption was secure.
