"What we really need for risk assessment" (for all causes of death) is probably the biggest understatement I have ever seen on an internet board. Yeah the news should reflect that proportionality ... you know, as the government are so concerned about our health.

The news appears a bit lopsided imho.

Or, if the new variant is more virulent but less lethal... the most important part about it might be the different degree in which it elicits successful immune responses in those infected... if that confers a functional immunity... to the one variant, only, or to others ?

Did note they are proceeding now with experiments in the Florida Keys... that have them releasing swarms of genetically modified mosquitoes... in order to wage biogenetic warfare against the pests...

A very bad idea, IMO... which I've written about before... but when has a bad idea being a bad idea... ever stopped them ?

Re <<What we really need for risk assessment is some numbers on the hospitalization and death rate of people that have already been infected or vaccinated.>>

Likely spot on.

Am remaining agnostic, but see that some authorities seem to be prepping the ways to respond to CoVid D. It is now termed 'D' as opposed to 'CCP Wu-Virus India edition' for reasons I cannot fathom, but never mind such petty matters re where and how the virus arose, how financed, gained function(s), and multiplied mostest fastest.

If the below reported comes true, one is compelled and correct to ask, what was the vaccination for in the first place, as all told by Team Pfizer-Boeing that its vaccine is good against D variant. And if not good against the D variant, then what efficacy against E through Z, and afterwards, AA through ZZ.

The theory that each generation of the virus shall become weaker may still be valid, but at the earlier time the MSM did not mention that there shall be improved near-virus per life and proto-life shall find a way.

In any case, we seem to be replaying November 2019 - March 2020, and the choreography seems familiar even though all knows the old script quite well and prefer to change the trajectory.

Such being the case, there is the matter of 16th March 2020 inflection point, which might not play the same way, now that the FED is so much more proactive along with the fiscal authorities around the globe.

Fully Vaccinated Israelis May Be Forced To Quarantine After Exposure To "Delta" Variant

As concerns about the threat posed by the "Delta" variant, a mutant strain of COVID-19 first discovered in India that's believed to be much more dangerous than rival strains, intensify, Israeli health officials have just been given the authority to quarantine pretty much anybody who is exposed to "Delta", even if the individual is already fully vaccinated, Reuters reports.

The heavy-handed decision comes after a warning by new Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on Tuesday over new outbreaks caused by "Delta" . Bennett complained that daily infections have been rising again in Israel after weeks of a low plateau credited to the country's record mass-vaccination drive.

Under the updated Health Ministry directive, vaccinated or formerly infected people can be ordered to self-isolate for up to 14 days if authorities suspect they may have passed in "close contact with a carrier of a dangerous virus variant."

This could include having been passengers on the same plane, the ministry said, a possible dampener on Israel's gradual opening of its borders to vaccinated summer tourists.

Addressing the Knesset (Israel's parliament), Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz said fines of "thousands of shekels" might be levied against Israeli citizens or residents who travel to countries blacklisted as high COVID-19 risks.

On June 16, the Health Ministry listed Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, India, Mexico and Russia as off-limits to Israeli citizens or residents unless they receive special permission.

Some 55% of Israel's 9.3MM population have received both doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, and a steep drop in cases had prompted most economic restrictions to be lifted. But just days earlier, Israel announced plans to start vaccinating teenagers between the ages of 12 and 15.

Offering an example of how different countries are handling the potential threat posed by the "Delta" variant, analysts at Rabobank pointed out that the UK has a far larger presence of the Delta variant, but that hasn't stopped it from allowing everyone to travel internationally from August; and Thailand, where COVID variants are also spreading, is opening up to tourism starting July 1 (in Phuket) and nationally beginning in October.

Meanwhile, Israel, which became the first developed nation in the world to vaccinate its population using mostly Pfizer doses, has already reinstated its mask rules after briefly removing them last week.

Tests are being urgently conducted at over 40 residential blocks, primary schools and a Buddhist temple in Tai Po after sewage in the area was found to be carrying a high viral load of a highly contagious Covid-19 mutant strain.

This came as a 27-year-old male airport ground crew member living in Wan Hang House in Wan Tau Tong Estate in Tai Po tested preliminary positive for the L452R Delta mutant strain first discovered in India.

Wan Hang House was locked down at 7pm so as to test all residents by 7.30am today.

The Centre for Health Protection said the man developed symptoms, including a fever, sore throat and cough, on Monday and consulted a private doctor that day.

He submitted a deep throat saliva sample on Tuesday, and the results came back positive for the Delta mutant strain.

The man has no history of travel, but is an airline ground crew member at the airport, where he received cargo flight crew members. He last worked there on June 16.

He also worked part-time in customer services at Uptown Plaza in Tai Po, with his last shift at the mall on Tuesday.

Compulsory test notices have been issued for the airport and Uptown Plaza.

Authorities yesterday also announced that sewage samples in the man's neighborhood tested positive for Covid-19 with a high viral loads and issued mandatory test notices for dozens of surrounding structures.

The notices cover the residential blocks of Classical Gardens, Dynasty View, Grand Dynasty View, The Balmoral, Wan Tau tong Estate, Yat Nga Court, King Nga Court, Tak Nga Court and Ha Wun Yiu, as well as Buddhist Ting Wai Monastery, Yan Chai Hospital Choi Hin To Primary School and Po Leung Kuk Tin Ka Ping Primary School.

Hundreds of residents were seen queuing in the rain for tests yesterday outside mobile stations at Tai Po Market Station Public Transport Interchange, Ma Wo Road Garden and outside Yat Wing House of Yat Nga Court, which operate from 10am to 8pm.

Officially, Hong Kong recorded two confirmed cases yesterday, comprising one case from Indonesia and the other with a pending travel history.

Also yesterday, authorities banned all flights from Indonesia from Friday onward, as the SAR has recorded more than 10 imported cases from the country carrying the Alpha N501Y mutant strain over the past week.

If the airport crew member's preliminary positive becomes a confirmed case, Hong Kong record of "zero local infections" for 16 days will be broken in a major setback for the SAR's plans to reopen the border with Macau.

Respiratory specialist Leung Chi-chiu believed the man was infected by an imported case. "It's more likely to be human-to-human transmission, but we can't rule out the possibility of object-to-human transmission," he said, adding that the mutant strain "usually grows into a massive outbreak within a short period when in a new place."

Authorities on Monday announced the relaxation of some social distancing measures based on the "vaccine bubble" concept from today and the halving of hotel quarantine for fully vaccinated returnees next week.

In light of the preliminary positive case, Leung called for authorities to reconsider those changes.

Meanwhile, more than two million people have taken the first jab of Covid-19 vaccines, Secretary for the Civil Service Patrick Nip Tak-kuen said. This would mean 29.2 percent of the city's 6.84 million population above 12 have taken the shots.
