NextLevel Systems, Inc.
NextLevel Systems (formerly known as General Instrument) supplies products that allow video, voice, and data to be delivered over virtually any type of network. Its biggest business is supplying equipment used by cable operators to deliver programming. Cable giants TCI and Time Warner are responsible for more than a third of NextLevel's sales. NextLevel is developing next-generation products that will greatly increase cable operators' channel capacity. It also makes cable modems that allow faster delivery of data from the Internet, as well as products that will let local phone companies upgrade their networks to offer services such as video on demand, distance learning, and video telephony.
