China's Belt and Road initiative was a surprise to Biden, who then contacted Boris Johnson and suggested that the West should also do something similar. I am dismayed how ignorant the US politicians are, even those that I expect to know better (context - Obama wanted to make APAC rather than ME the center of US foreign policy. So I expected Biden to know better).

This is my long winded way of saying that with the possible exception of India and *maybe* Japan and SK, the US will likely be unsuccessful in attracting SEA and APAC against China.

The stark differences between subsequent US administrations since Clinton has made the US a most untrustworthy country. Nobody in his sane mind will tie his fortunes to the US policy when the next admin could be so drastically different. China on the other hand does not suffer from this problem. So I would not be so certain that *any* US administration can build alliances again.

The solution is to build international bodies and have China sign into them rather than try to split the world in another cold war.
