I think it's an issue specific to that driver. UPS and FedEx both do a good job for me. DHL and Purolator (German and French Cos), not so much. But I've heard people outside North America say the opposite.

I remember one of my MBA profs tell us stories about how he was a driver for UPS or FedEx (can't remember which) when he was in grad school and how he had to rush to get his routes and packages lined up because they gave him so very little time to deliver them all.

Not saying that is the case with your guy. Only that there seems to be a lot of room for a person to add their own "sauce" to the mix.
