My all time favorite blopper - Pres. Carter at a convention introduced Humphrey as follows:

"My Fellow Americans I give you HUBBERT....HORATIO....HORNBLOWER!!
i mean humphrey."

I've flown in and out of JW Airport. Bradley International was so named in the early 90s. How about Orange County's own? -- Channel 56's Wally George Airport?

>>Does anyone remember Humphrey's Quayle-like public presence. My favorite Humphrey quote was, "No sane man likes the war in Vietnam and neither does President Johnson." Even Dan Quayle couldn't top that one!

I remember when, in 1980, Jimmy Carter gave his Dem convention acceptance speech. He built up to what was supposed to be a cathartic tribute line to Hubert Horatio Humphrey, but Carter instead yelled his tribute to Hubert Heratio Hornblower!!!

The Media tried to gloss over that very telling gaff by ignoring it - just as they now do with AlGore's non-stop gaffs. Of course, had a Republican made the same mistake it would have been media fodder for days, if not weeks.

A good recent example of the latter is when Sen. J. Rockefeller introduced to the media a "good friend" of his at a news conference. The obviously blue collar "good friend" was there to showcase some alleged perfidy by Republicans. Too bad this "good friend" had his arm exposed - for it displayed a large swastika!

Guess what - no media coverage - despite the fact that everyone there noticed the swastika! That is, until the Washington Post's media critic, Howard Kurtz, used that "coverup" as a glaring example of Media bias, correctly driving home the point that any Republican, especially a conservative one, would have been crucified by relentless media coverage.
