Maybe no proof, esp. if you mean "stop" rather than "slow" but the evidence seems to back up he idea, esp. for the initial variants. Less severe, and asymptomatic cases are more likely for vaccinated people and seem less likely to spread. Also the countries with the highest vaccination rates seem to be doing better lately with new cases compared to the counties with very low rates. There are too many factors (including new variants) for this to be absolutely conclusive or "proof" but it seems to be the case.
