As a Quicken / Checkfree user when I enter a payment I can make the payment no sooner than 5 working days from the date I transmit to Checkfree. Please help me understand how and when I can expect this time to be shortened. The winner in bill payment will be a payer that allows the customer to pay the bill in less time, maybe 1 day, maybe the same day, eventually immediately will be the standard. This would be like a fax, put the payment in while you are talking to the vendor on the phone, and the vendor can tell you "yes we received your payment" while you are still on the phone.
I realize that if the payment must be mailed (what percentage of Checkfree's payments are mailed today?), then the post office delay must be built in. What I am hoping to understand is how Checkfree plans to shorten this time. When in the future will they allow less time for vendors that are already set up for electronic funds transfer? How will they keep improving their service to stay in front of the competition as the market insists on more and more immediate payment ability.
