In conclusion you maintain that the Rockefellers, Zbigniew Brzezinski, Jimmy Carter, and my Aunt TIlly are all secret communists plotting to take over the world. Who would have thunk it ?

Seemingly unconscious Tesla driver seen in moving vehicle

MR. ROADSHOW

Q This past Sat urday at 12:49 p.m., I was driving on Highway 85.

There was a white Tesla ahead of me, in the slow lane.

It had its right turn indicator on, but it drifted slowly to the left, into my lane, before slowly going back into its own lane.

Then it started to slow down considerably.

As I passed it, I was alarmed to see the female driver totally slumped over, both hands on the wheel, head almost against the side of the door.

The car started slowing way down so I hit my hazard lights and lifted my foot off the gas so the Tesla would catch up to me.

As it came alongside of me, I hit the horn - many long taps at first and then one long blast.

I was trying to wake the woman up, but she was totally nonresponsive.

The Tesla started speeding up so we were soon going about 55 mph.

At that point, I used my handsfree to call 911. (The Sheriff's Department picked up in- stantly!) I was on the horn for nearly 1/4 mile! Then, to my horror, the car took the Saratoga offramp at full speed! My questions are these: At what point does the self-driving car stop driving since the person's hands were still on the wheel?

Was there anything else I could have or should have done?

And my comments for the driver (if she is reading this) are these: I hope you are OK and weren't having a medical issue.

You really scared several of us on the freeway on Saturday and I really hope you didn't cause an accident.

And, lastly, I wonder if you finally woke up to find yourself in your driveway and realized that you slept the entire way home - I hope that scared you enough that you won't ever do that again!

— Jill Selvaggio

A It is illegal to use the self-driving function on vehicles with this capability if you are not alert, awake and have the ability to take over the controls when necessary.

You were right to call 911.

There have been instances when drivers dozed off and trusted the vehicle to handle road conditions that the vehicle was not ready to handle.

Q My son saw a Tesla driver, what he hoped was a self-driving one, on the freeway in the Sacramento area, with two little kids in the back and the driver sleeping.

He called it in. Wow.

A These are very scary stories.

These two examples came in within a day or two of each other. Readers, I hope you have no more examples, but if you do, let me know.
