Cable will win in the DSL vs Cable arena IMHO. First, the vast
majority of potential users in the long run aren't computer users
like many of us. Many potential users don't even have computers
in their home. They all have TV's and telephones. What is easier
for these potential users to do. Buy a new computer, set it up via
the phone and have someone teach them how to use a computer.
I've been going through this with my parents. It's been a difficult
process for them. They are in their seventies. Talk to many
people over the age of 50 and they are afraid of computers.

The easier solution rests with having them purchase the "black
TV box" and connect via modem. Using a service like ATHM
makes a lot more sense. Very few people are afraid of using
their TV's. TV will win out because of it's acceptance versus
the need for purchasing a computer and hooking up via
telephones. Would you rather look at a 32" TV screen or a
17" computer monitor?

Additionally, who wants to go to the expense of buying a
computer and all the additional DSL equipment. TV's are
already in place in most homes. No need to buy a monitor.
As one's TV gets outdated to you think that someone is going
to buy a new TV or a new computer?

Finally, my understanding is that current DSL technology is
limited to users that are within 16,000 to 20,000 feet of a central
phone station. That's a big limitation for many.

These are just some opinions of mine, but one's that I think
are shared by many current non computer users.
