The occupation of Afghanistan was totally different than the Viet Nam war. People should not be conflating the two things. One was a matter of invading a country because the right wing nutcases wanted to because they were paranoid about the domino effect, which was never a reality. But the right wing is stone cold nuts, but has lots of power among conservatives, the Republican party and military. In Afghanistan we were protecting the people from barbaric terrorists of many ilks. And we were making progress in building a modern civilized country which could have been a beacon of modern democratic civility, with laws protecting women and people in general, for an entire country and region; and we had already done the hard work defeating the Taliban and other barbarians, and establishing a social and democratic infrastructure. That has all been destroyed now. 20 years of hard work down the drain and empowered the "barbarians" to raise hell around the world. We should never have even been in Viet Nam, as the French had invaded their country and they were trying to get them to leave, and we came in to support the French which was stone cold nuts, but the right wing IS nuts. I protested the Viet Nam war and was resolved to not go their and kill people for no good reason. The reason we were over there was because our brain dead right wing wanted to do that, and I already knew how fucking nuts they are! And Biden just pulled us out of Afghanistan without even saving the allies who helped and trusted us, and empowered the terrorists and set in action the destruction of the country which will soon look like Somalia, with thousands now condemned to a life of terror, torture, starvation and death!! I am not OK with that and am sure there was a better way e.g. coordinating with the world's leaders to continue to protect that nation we had under our control. It was crazy Trump that turned the country over to the Taliban, and Biden was OK with that??
