derek,

Despite my assessment that your claims are flawed and that you do
not adequately address critiques, I will comment once again.

Your items 1 and 3 are the same point and ignore both my factual
comment and that of another poster. You don't appear to understand
what happened at Netscape and twist the news to fit your agenda.
In fact you are also ignoring the huge Java development industry,
which was mentioned in the other poster's critique.

#2 thanks for clarifying - that certainly wasn't clear in your
first message

#4 the claim that Oracle is betting solely on the nc and Java is
misguided and contrary to all reports. Oracle is also betting on apps, solutions sales, distributed objects as an extension of existing
technology and making the database faster, larger, able to support
more simultaneous users, easier to manage, etc etc ( in other words,
generally the same thing all the enterprise vendors aim for).

I think the 98-99 period will provide an explosion of devices which
expand the notion of "computer" - in other words, a proliferation
of formats and functions. We will also see an explosion of high
bandwidth communication and the encroachment of this on tv and telephony. I think you underestimate the impact of these changes. I also can't tell whether you understand how Oracle is approaching the nc.

#4 so you think oo is a failed notion?

#5 sounds too simple a claim to me
