I too love feeding the birds as it also reminds me of my father who loved feeding them too.

I was really happy to see a mating pair of Peregrine falcons moved into the area and sometimes feed on the doves or chase other birds into my windows. If not "my birds" they would find birds elsewhere to eat so I'm good with it. Also, neighbors on either side have dogs so two, young local cats have discovered my yard and get the occasional small bird but more importantly, they help the falcons eat the rats and squirrels that are a menace to gardens, especially my drip system. en.wikipedia.org

I think of the Peregrine falcons and cats as "up the food chain" similar to the drug dealers who feast on the extra cash the bums/homeless/unhoused/whatever might have spent on food.

Of course there are also the alcohol and cigarette, legal drug dealers, that also profit heavily from this group. So at least a gift of food won't go directly to those illegal and legal misery dealers and is better than the straight cash many get from the local and state governments or handouts of cash many on our busy streets, even here, ask for.
