I've noticed every multibillionaire that has stakes in China, and this includes hedge funds and other investors, have been sucking up and toeing the party line on China. There was a wise statement in a sci-fi show that I used to watch: "Truth is a 3-edged sword." The 3 edges refer to your side, the other side's, and the unspoken parts. Only by cross referencing the various "truths" and applying critical thinking can one get the whole picture. My personal opinion is that there are a lot of legitimate reasons behind China's actions, that are also being used to drive political agendas. No good politician anywhere in the world will let a good crisis go to waste ;)
