Yes - they like "freedoms" when they remove the freedoms of others, restricting their personal lives, making others' cultures a "threat", while insinuating their own beliefs into personal reproductive choices, or as limits on the ability of others to have peaceful protests, or to get redress for their grievances. At the same time they have no feelings of responsibility for people's well being after they are born, and are harmed by the very society which they have created for people.

These folks want extend their rights to inconvenience (or kill) others - they seem fine with it. It really is a "one-way" freedom (theirs) with no egalitarian considerations that might provide balance.

Jamie, to some extent it's just people sorting themselves out into groups they enjoy. Obviously it's silly to talk about "free speech"- since this is a business and there isn't any free speech right here AND moderators of the private threads are not obligated to let anyone talk if they don't like them. I think about my threads as I would my living room- I don't want people here I don't like. It's a pleasure principle. Some people are just painful to be around. Those people who are painful are different for each person- so I'm sure you just ran into the wrong people (and SI skews older- so you may just be too young for this forum.)

IMO, it is not about being hypocrites so much as about an inability to understand complex ideas.

All one has to do is watch a Jordan Klepper video to see how the Trump supporters struggle to understand the most basic ideas. Video below.

And as I keep posting it is generational. Here is a thought experiment.

Think of a dinner with Einstein, Bertrand Russel and Sartre and half a dozen UC Berkeley grad students. They would probably have a pretty good substantive conversation.

Now go take a look at the 1936 movie:" The cowboy and the Lady" with Gary Cooper and imagine half a dozen of those people at the table.

They would be totally lost and not even begin to enter the conversation as their mental abilities would be less than a modern 10 year old.

But as the women are educating themselves 60/40 over the men, and the kids are learning more than the old white right wingers, and an educated democracy is a healthy democracy, the future bodes well, IMO.

I don't know why anyone doesn't leave after the first day since they'll be banned. I still have to laugh at how small the people in this forum are. Though, it sounds like it wasn't always this way. The same people who scream "free speech" are the first to stop it. Hypocrites.
