Watch The Women from 1939. They would definitely understand the conversation. Not to mention that Sartre was working (1905-1980) during that time period and so were Russell (1872-1970) and Einstein (1879-1955). You are mixing up weirdly related materials. Do you think the viewers of The Purge are going to go in for Einstein's theories? Sartre's philosophy? hardly.

In many ways, because people actually READ things, people prior to the computer age were more informed and better thinkers. We may be better tinkers now- but I do not see evidence of better thinking.

I'd like very much to share your optimism, but that video, and the way those parents want to run the schools, makes it hard. Our generation fell way short of our supposed ideals. And our educations were without the influence of these imbeciles

The video is odd. Focus on educating but they don't listen to science or the experts. One woman looked perplexed that science says she's wrong. We received a good education. They didn't.

I also think it still comes down to how we're wired. You're a we person, they're a me person. It's all about me or it's about us.

So something like this, "I think I'm right so the experts must be wrong." That's classic conservatism.

I'm visiting LA and at a big family gathering a relative was not vaccinated. As to why there were many vague statements. Finally the first concrete reason was that he thought the virus was created in China as part of a weapon campaign. when we asked why he would not want to be protected from a weapon if that were true he started to get angry.
