One of the things that I have come to recognize as a weakness in work and life is that no one really talks about the true purpose or reason for savings; income from primary asset to provide a stable or suitable lifestyle. When we are working, we should be buying incoming producing asset with growth (dividend champions) to produce a steadily growing income stream. After, following Chowder, et al overtime, we have transitioned our annual portfolio review to how much income the portfolio produces versus the actual portfolio value. Its nice to track income produced and its growth over time, realizing multiplying effect of income producers.

When I advise folks about investment, I ask them about how much income their portfolio produces, and most do not know. If we focus on income from growing dividends, more people may become motivated to save or buy more income and seeking out more opportunity (reducing expenses) to make this happen.
