David,

The DEC deal with Intel on alpha chip & fabs has yet to be consummated.

If I remember correctly Intel has purchased alpha processor manufacturing facility only, not the design/engineering. The engineering and the intellectual property still belongs to DEC.

Satish

Re: Alpha. As Satish pointed out in a previous response, the deal is that Intel buys the manufacturing facility for $700 million and manufactures the chip. DEC retains rights to the design and keeps the design team. Intel gets a license to use some of the technology in its chips. Licensing fees and discounts on Intel chips (spread over 10 years) amount to another $800 million.

Hope this helps, Charlie.
